Psychotherapist in Brooklyn, NY

Scarlett Torrez, MHC-LP
A formative experience that profoundly shaped my life and purpose was surviving sexual abuse. Rather than allowing it to define me, I used it as fuel to break cycles of silence and shame that are too often protected in families and communities. I became determined not just to heal, but to help others do the same. My journey inspired me to pursue a path in mental health, where I now stand as both a voice for those who’ve been silenced and a safe space for those still finding their voice. This work isn’t just professional—it’s deeply personal.
My mission is to help others heal, grow, and reclaim their power—especially those who’ve been silenced by trauma, abuse, or systemic injustice. I am committed to breaking cycles of generational pain by showing up with compassion, honesty, and hope. Through therapy, advocacy, and continued learning, I aim to be a source of strength and support for individuals and families navigating the hardest parts of their stories. My purpose is rooted in transforming pain into purpose—both my own and that of the people I serve.
As a clinician, my strength lies in deep empathy and intuition. I have a natural ability to truly see people—to meet them where they are without judgment and to understand their inner world in a way that makes them feel safe, heard, and valued. This connection helps clients open, heal, and grow in meaningful ways.
I work primarily with adolescents and adults, from mid-teens through mid-40s, who are navigating anxiety, depression, low self-worth, boundary setting, and complex family dynamics. I also support those struggling with communication issues, emotional disconnection, and conflict resolution. Clients who are drawn to me often seek a space where they feel genuinely seen and understood. Many are carrying the weight of unresolved trauma, relational stress, or major life transitions and are looking for guidance, clarity, and balance.
The process of working with me begins by meeting you exactly where you are. I believe in creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can open up at your own pace. Building a strong, trusting relationship is the foundation of our work together. From there, we explore your experiences, challenges, and goals collaboratively, allowing your needs to guide the direction of our sessions. My role is to support and empower you as you gain clarity, build coping skills, and move toward healing and growth.
Outside of work, I love traveling and immersing myself in different cultures—a passion that keeps me curious and open-minded. I enjoy trying new foods, getting lost in a good book, and unwinding with a great dystopian series. These experiences help me stay grounded, inspired, and connected to the world in meaningful ways.
