Growing up in a traditional Asian-American household, I was raised with the values of discipline, perseverance, and achievement. Following the path expected of me, I studied hard, earned excellent grades, attended an elite university, and secured a prestigious job in banking. Yet, after 12 years in the industry, I found myself constantly stressed—anxious about making mistakes and overwhelmed by the pressure to be perfect, to say and do the right thing in every circumstance. Becoming a parent to a newborn made it all feel even more unmanageable. After the birth of my second child, I made the difficult decision to quit my job. Stepping away from my career to be with my family was a pivotal moment—one that allowed me to pause and reflect on who I was and what I truly wanted from life.
For the next five years, I dedicated myself to full-time parenting. Then, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, my family and I went into lockdown. During this time, I reconnected with music—returning to the piano as I had when I was a little girl and picking up a guitar to learn something new. I spent countless hours mastering the guitar through YouTube tutorials, falling in love with playing and singing my favorite songs. Music became a powerful coping tool, offering me a sense of growth and achievement. Eventually, I began leading a music class for parents and babies around Brooklyn while my kids were in school. Music became my pathway back into a career after years of being at home—and this time, it felt much more authentic and aligned with who I truly am.
As a clinician, I specialize in working with two primary populations: (1) adults navigating anxiety, depression, and the lingering effects of past trauma and (2) children with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. I bring a unique blend of personal and professional experience to my work, having walked my own path of growth, reflection, and transformation. My approach is collaborative and client-centered—I meet people where they are and tailor therapy to honor their unique experiences, backgrounds, and goals. I see myself as both a guide and a partner in my clients’ journeys toward self-discovery and healing.
Music is also an integral part of the therapeutic experience I offer. Singing, for example, engages the breath and activates the vagus nerve, helping to calm the nervous system and regulate emotions. Playing music together fosters a sense of connection and synchronicity, often leaving clients feeling lighter, more grounded, and carrying positive memories beyond the session.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family. I also love practicing yoga, doing Pilates, and playing pickleball at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
