Psychotherapist Brooklyn, NYC

Erin Swisher, LMSW
I grew up in Pennsylvania for the first 13 years of my life before moving to rural New York. My childhood and early adult life were filled with life-altering experiences such as great loss, major life transitions, and events that changed the way I saw the world. When people ask me why I do what I do, these experiences are a major part of the answer. I know how invaluable it can be to have someone present in the most transformative and often difficult periods of life. Feeling seen, heard, and supported is one of the most powerful forms of healing we can have as humans, and that’s why this is the work I’ve chosen.
The clients drawn to working with me are often children, teens, and young adults facing loss, life transitions, social and relational stressors, trauma recovery, and school-related stress. No two struggles, stories, or people are the same, which is why I believe therapy can’t be one-size-fits-all.
I place a strong emphasis on building rapport and connection, because that is half of the work. From there, I use creative approaches, such as incorporating art or other expressive outlets into treatment. I also use play-based approaches, and I’m always open to trying new things to make therapy as engaging and meaningful as possible. Treatment planning is collaborative, with emphasis on what meaningful change looks like to you. Goals are tailored to improving mood, functioning, and your ability to adapt to whatever life throws your way.
Outside of the therapy space, I enjoy creative outlets like painting, crafting, and digital design. I also love being in nature, thrifting, and exercising. Reading about someone can only scratch the surface of knowing them, but I hope this gives you an idea. It would be an honor to work with you on your journey.
