Psychotherapist Brooklyn, NYC

Frankie Meshnick, LMSW
I came to this work through a deep belief that healing happens through connection, curiosity, and compassion. Like many people drawn to therapy, my own life has been shaped by identity struggles, mental health challenges, and loss. These experiences fuel my commitment to creating affirming, supportive therapy spaces where clients feel seen and understood.
My therapeutic lens is informed by psychodynamic theory, parts work, and relational approaches, and grounded in an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed framework. I pay close attention not only to present concerns, but also to past relationships, systems of power, and internalized narratives that shape what unfolds in the therapy room. I am driven to help people better understand their patterns, their inner worlds, and the parts of themselves that have adapted in order to survive. I see therapy as a space to slow down, reflect, and build new ways of relating to yourself and others—while honoring the social and cultural contexts that shape our lives.
My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming, and I am committed to creating a safe environment for clients to explore gender, sexuality, and identity. My work is informed by specialized psychodynamic training in gender and sexuality, as well as by my own identity as a queer, nonbinary person. Anti-racist and decolonial frameworks are central to my organizing and community work, and they meaningfully inform how I show up as a therapist. I have experience working with people of all ages navigating anxiety, ADHD, depression, identity exploration, trauma, relationship challenges, family dynamics, and life transitions. When working with children and adolescents, I draw on my background as a teacher and arts educator, incorporating play, art, and creativity to support expression and emotional regulation.
As a therapist, my approach is warm and dynamic. Together, we’ll move at a pace that feels right for you, making space for curiosity, humor, grief, anger, and joy. I aim to cultivate an environment that feels safe enough to take risks and honest enough to foster authentic connection. Clients often report feeling more grounded, self-compassionate, and connected to themselves and others, with a clearer understanding of their emotional worlds and greater flexibility in responding to life’s challenges.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, tending to my metalsmithing and jewelry-making practice, and reading science fiction. In both my personal life and clinical work, I strive to remain curious, creative, and deeply engaged.
