Psychotherapist in Brooklyn, NY

Kristen Cordero, MSW-LP
I was 13, sitting in the back seat of the car, tears streaming down my face as my parents argued. In that moment, I made a promise: when I grew up, I would help people feel what I didn’t—safe, loved, and worthy. For eight years, I worked with hundreds of children and young people across the world, many impacted by migration, violence, and climate change, advocating for their human rights before world leaders. I loved the work and felt I was fulfilling my childhood mission.
On the outside, I was “successful but inside, I was anxious, exhausted, and depressed—working 12-hour days, skipping meals, taking on too much. I lost my hair, developed migraines and digestive issues, and was diagnosed with a chronic illness. During this time, I also lost my mother to brain cancer.
Eventually, I realized I was living according to others’ expectations and societal pressures, not my own truth. I hadn’t faced my childhood wounds or grief. It wasn’t until I began exploring mind-body healing—through somatics, embodiment, and creativity—that I began to reclaim my power and live more authentically. Today, my mission is to help others do the same: to heal deep wounds, break intergenerational cycles, confront fear, and live lives rooted in authenticity, joy, and empowerment.
As a therapist, I use somatic parts work, mindfulness, art, play, and a trauma-informed, compassionate presence to support your unique path to healing. I especially love working with women who are ready to release societal expectations, process grief, heal childhood wounds, and find peace in the midst of anxiety or depression. I also work with children and their guardians to build emotional resilience, express feelings, strengthen self-esteem, and rediscover the joy of being a kid.
After working together clients often share that they feel lighter, more hopeful, and more aligned with their truth. They’re setting boundaries, coping better, and finding joy again. I’ve been told my calm, warm, and non-judgmental presence helps them feel deeply seen and supported.
Outside of sessions, I love nature walks, creating art, dancing, eating delicious food, traveling, laughing, and spending time with my husband, dog, and two cats. If you feel even a small nudge, I invite you to reach out. It would be an honor to walk beside you—or your child—on the journey to blossom.
