Laura Barakat

Laura Barakat, LMSW

From a young age, I’ve been drawn to understanding people—why they struggle, how they heal, and what creates lasting change. My own experiences with emotional pain, self-inquiry, and breaking free from limiting narratives fuel my work as a therapist. I help people move from survival mode to a place of self-trust and agency.

I believe mental health challenges aren’t just obstacles to overcome but opportunities for deeper understanding, clarity, and fulfillment. My goal is to help people make sense of their struggles in a way that feels useful and meaningful, rather than viewing them as problems to be “fixed.” To me, therapy isn’t just about managing symptoms—it’s about creating a life that feels more aligned and authentic.

I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity struggles, using an integration of psychodynamic therapy, somatic work, mindfulness, and cognitive techniques. My approach resonates with those who are introspective, open to self-exploration, and willing to engage with their emotions and patterns in a meaningful way. Many of my clients come with existential questions, relationship and attachment concerns, or a general sense of being stuck.

I take an active role in the therapeutic process—offering insights, asking direct questions, and challenging unhelpful patterns while providing a supportive space to explore. Clients often find that our work helps them feel more grounded, clear-headed, and better equipped to navigate emotions with greater ease.

Outside of work, I enjoy going to the gym, traveling, trying new foods, and spending time with loved ones. I’m drawn to experiences that foster curiosity, connection, and adventure.
