Psychotherapist Brooklyn, NYC
Laura Esquivel Martinez,
LMSW
As a first-generation immigrant, bicultural individual, and psychotherapist, I intimately understand the complexities of balancing multiple identities while pursuing a fulfilling, meaningful life. My own journey has involved navigating cultural identities, building self-confidence, managing chronic illness, and working through the challenges of forming healthy relationships. Therapy became a transformative tool for me—a catalyst for growth and renewed faith in the power of positive change. These experiences taught me to embrace my identity and find strength within, inspiring me to help others do the same.
I spent my last two years in hospital social work, which gave me the privilege of guiding individuals toward meaningful health goals, deepening my understanding of holistic well-being, and empowering change. I’m currently pursuing a PhD in social work with a specialization in health inequities while seeing clients at Resilient Mind Psychotherapy.
As a therapist, I specialize in working with immigrants facing anxiety, depression, trauma, and major life transitions. I proudly offer services to English and Spanish-speaking clients, ensuring that therapy remains accessible and inclusive for those seeking culturally sensitive support. My clients often come to me seeking clarity, relief from overwhelming thoughts, and a way to honor both their mental and physical well-being.
In our work together, I blend evidence-based therapies—such as CBT, mindfulness, and trauma-focused methods—with a compassionate understanding of each person’s unique story. My approach is shaped by my hospital social work experience, where I developed a holistic perspective on health, empowering clients to build resilience and self-awareness. Over time, my clients report reduced stress, increased self-compassion, and a renewed sense of purpose, enabling them to live in alignment with their values and aspirations.
Creativity fuels my soul. When I’m not working I’m capturing moments through my lens, crafting something by hand, or planning for the next big adventure. I’m happiest sharing these moments with loved ones, making memories that feel like home, and exploring new places that expand my world.
