Psychotherapist Brooklyn, NYC

Nicolle Ilizarov, LMSW
Being born and raised in Brooklyn, I experienced firsthand how living in a big city full of energy and constant connection can still feel deeply lonely. Even when surrounded by people, it’s easy to feel unseen, disconnected from yourself, or emotionally exhausted by the constant pull of your own thoughts and internal patterns. During my own experiences with depression, anxiety, and searching for clarity, therapy became a place of genuine relief. Having a space where I felt truly heard and supported allowed me to better understand my inner world, find moments of peace, and begin an ongoing journey of growth and healing. That experience shaped the way I approach my work today and inspired my desire to support others in their own healing process.
I believe healing is possible for everyone, and that the work of looking inward can be both challenging and deeply rewarding. Many people carry emotional pain or inner struggles that aren’t always visible or easy to name. Therapy offers a space to slow down, reflect, and begin making sense of what’s happening beneath the surface — you don’t need to have everything figured out to begin. I approach therapy as a collaborative, client-led process grounded in safety, empathy, and trust, where you can show up as you are and move at your own pace.
I’m especially interested in supporting individuals who feel emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that feel difficult to break. Using a client-centered and strength-based approach, I integrate active listening, mindfulness, and cognitive and behavioral tools to explore emotional patterns and personal narratives, deepen self-understanding, and support meaningful growth both in and outside of therapy. I practice with cultural awareness and a social justice lens, and I believe these values are essential to creating meaningful and inclusive therapeutic spaces. By remaining thoughtful, informed, and committed to ongoing learning, I strive to offer an environment where clients feel safe, respected, and genuinely supported in their healing journey.
Outside of work, spending time with my three cats helps me unwind. I enjoy working out, puzzles, painting, and traveling to new places. I also have a personal interest in spirituality and the mind–body connection.
