Psychotherapist Brooklyn, NYC
Sophie Woods,
LCAT-LP, MT-BC
Sophie Woods LCAT-LP Music and the arts have always played an important role in my life. When deciding how I could channel my passion for music and connecting with others into a fulfilling career, music therapy was the perfect fit. I received my bachelor’s in music therapy with a minor in psychology and a master’s of science in music therapy. My mission as a music and creative arts therapist is to help patients achieve emotional freedom and overall wellness through music therapy and other creative arts modalities.
I have successfully helped people work through and cope with diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. I also work with individuals who have dealt with bullying and verbal/emotional abuse. Many of the people I work with are struggling to find hope and direction and to move on from the past. I help them to honor, learn from, and work through their past experiences in order to live in the present and create a hopeful future. Some of my clients are creatives but most are people who are simply seeking a different kind of therapy. I work in a holistic and humanistic framework and strive to meet clients where they are to ensure they are getting what they need out of therapy.
When I’m not working, I love writing, performing, and listening to music. The way that I use music in my personal life serves as self-care but also informs the work I do as a music psychotherapist. I also enjoy exploring New York’s beautiful museums, making jewelry, spending time with family and friends, and hanging out with my cat, Teddy.
