Tanese Orr, LMSW

My passion for helping others began more than 30 years ago, inspired by witnessing the devastating impact of substance use on many communities, including my own. I came to believe that if I could help even one person overcome their struggles and move toward a more fulfilling life, my efforts would be worthwhile. That belief became the foundation of my work and led me to deepen my understanding of human behavior, mental wellness, trauma, and the challenges that can keep people from reaching their full potential.

Over more than 14 years as a Licensed Master Social Worker, I have worked with survivors of domestic violence, children and families, adolescents, individuals navigating substance use, and individuals with intellectual disabilities. I commonly work with people experiencing depression, anxiety, and borderline personality disorder, and I tend to connect especially well with clients who feel misunderstood, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward. I am also a PhD candidate in General Psychology, with an emphasis in Cognition and Instruction, and am currently completing my dissertation.

My approach is person-centered and grounded in meeting clients where they are. Every person has a unique story, and I do not believe a diagnosis should define who someone is. Our work begins with creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel comfortable being authentic and vulnerable. From there, we work together to understand the whole person, recognize your strengths, set meaningful goals, and develop practical strategies for navigating life’s challenges. I offer honest feedback with compassion and respect, helping clients recognize patterns that may be affecting their relationships, emotional well-being, and daily lives.

Through consistent work together, clients often develop greater self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, stronger coping skills, healthier communication, and increased confidence in navigating difficult situations. Above all, I want every client to know that their current circumstances do not have to determine their future.

Outside of sessions, I enjoy traveling, listening to music, spending time with my family, and incorporating sound bowls into my personal wellness practice. These are my reminders to make space for the things that bring joy and restoration.
